Summer Food Service Program Training Examples

As an intern and Program Monitor for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in Washington, D.C., I observed firsthand the annual training sessions required by federal regulations. These sessions, while essential, often felt long and monotonous. After my promotion to lead the D.C. SFSP, I was committed to transforming these trainings into engaging and informative experiences for our stakeholders. I implemented tailored training sessions, separating new partners from returning ones, to streamline content and ensure experienced partners weren’t receiving redundant information. For returning partners, I introduced interactive elements, such as a Jeopardy-style game based on federal regulations, which proved to be a huge success. Additionally, I developed an informational session for potential new partners, offering a comprehensive overview of the program’s requirements and benefits. These changes not only improved engagement but also enhanced the overall training experience for our participants.
